Seeing the world as I do

Bosque Del Apache

In October 2012, my father and I took a workshop with Juan Pons to Bosque Del Apache. For those of you who do not know where (or what!) this place is, it’s a huge bird sanctuary in southern New Mexico. It is a migratory stopping point for hundreds of Snow Geese, Herons and Sand Hill Cranes. They literally fill the air! It is quite the spectacle to see. In the morning, sometimes, the “blast off!” occurs and hundreds of these geese all take off at the same time. The sound is deafening but the site is just pure magic! It’s cold and a little damp, but oh so worth it to catch these majestic creatures. This place is loved by bird watchers and photographers alike. There was not a morning there without a spectacular sunrise. We took a couple of side trips. On the way there we stopped by the famous “Cadillac Ranch” and one night we went to do some Astro Photography at the VLA (Very Large Array), One of the darkest places in North America. Wow, the stars!
